So you have booked a Queenstown Maternity Photoshoot and would like to know whats next? Take a quick read of the guide below to help get the best results from your maternity photoshoot.
Firstly, I prepare each client with a pre-session FAQ and a dress guide, which I send via email. This way you might already get a few questions answered and can think about dress options.
A few days before the photoshoot we will meet up to discuss shoot locations, dresses & outfits for everyone that is meant to be in the maternity photos. I will bring a selection of dresses for you to try on and chose from based on your size, style and color preference. This prep meeting is always fun and a good way to get to know each other & get any question answered that you may have.
Usually my pregnancy photoshoots are based in the Queenstown area and take from 30 minutes – 1.5 hours based on the package you have booked. The photoshoot is taken around sunset, so we can create the best Queenstown pregnancy photos. I always aim to do photoshoots around sunset when the light is nice & soft, and the colours in the sky are stunning. If you have a special spot in mind in the Queenstown area, I’m always happy to explore a Queenstown area location of your choice.
WHAT DO I WEAR FOR A QUEENSTOWN PREGNANCY SHOOT ?
I have a selection of maternity dresses for you to chose from for the photoshoot, we will do a pre-session fitting to make sure the dress fits well and suits you.
Wear a bra that is a little more supportive to help give your dress shape. Bring your maternity bra with you so you can change into it if you get uncomfortable. Some dresses also work well with gel pads. Make sure your bra and underwear is not visible through your dress, strapless bras are a good option.
It's not necessary to have your fingernails painted for a maternity photoshoot, but if they are painted, make sure its not chipped off and that the colour complements your outfit. Either unpainted or a natural style is best.
Pamper yourself by booking a professional hair and make up artist to look your best during your Queenstown Maternity Photosession. If you don't know who to book I can help out with recommendations. If you want to do your make up yourself, go a little bolder as you would usually do to make sure your eyes and lips are well-defined in your images.
You can compliment your dress with some nice earrings, a necklace or a flower crown - It can really add to the style of the photoshoot.
Have a comfortable pair of shoes to walk in. Don't worry, all of my dresses are long enough to cover them up completely.
HOW DO I PREPARE MYSELF FOR A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT?
Get plenty of rest the night before. That way, you’ll be refreshed and relaxed at your session the next day.
A couple hours before your session, take time to apply some non-greasy lotion to reduce any dry spots on your skin. Be sure to avoid using any artificial tanners or spray tans as they may give your skin an unnatural orange look.
Make sure to have a light snack and drink plenty of water. Pack a bag of extra snacks and any other items you think you may need throughout your maternity shoot.
ANYTHING I NEED TO BRING TO THE SHOOT ?
Natural bug spray: At sunset there can be quite a few mozzies & sandlies around. Some natural bug spray that is safe to use during pregnancy can be helpful.
Bring a jumper or warm jacket as once the sun goes down towards the end the photoshoot it can be quite cool, so make sure you have something to keep you warm.
Bring a snack and some water to keep you hydrated during and after the shoot.
Most importantly: try not to stress. Being in front of a camera can be intimidating but I will make sure to guide you trough the whole process so you can feel your best, relax and just have fun while celebrating this wonderful time in your life.
I hope these tips can help make sure your shoot goes smoothly and that you will receive the best images possible.
